KSA Careers Panel
Please save the date for our second annual Careers Panel. It's for all Scholars interested in (re-) evaluating their career path, whatever stage they're at, but is of particular interest for current undergraduate Scholars and recent graduates, of course.

It will be held on Tuesday 17 October 2019 from 5 30 to 8 30 pm, at the Westminster Kingsway College, London SW1 close to Victoria and St James’s Park stations (76 Vincent Square, Westminster, London SW1P 2PD). Food and drinks will be served.

The KSA Committee is keen to provide a range of events and experiences in addition to our very well attended ceremonial and social events. For that we need your support. The Careers Panel will give an opportunity to hear from members of our community in various walks of life and from different generations; they will have many insights on building a successful career journey, whilst sharing thoughts and listening to your concerns, all in an informal networking environment.

We are in the middle of completing the Panel as we want to take care to have a balanced group: so far people from industry, finance, e-commerce, TV/media, the public sector and public relations are in the frame. (And if you'd like to discuss your own career trajectory on the panel, please do let me know). The panel will share:

·The path our panellists have taken to date,
·The role of networking, and formal things like CVs and interviews,
·How to re-invent yourself every so often....changing direction and 'creating your own luck',
·How to manage a career even in corporate or professional positions from a 'portfolio' point of view,
·Avoiding sliding into ‘non-graduate’ roles, other than in temporary situations
·Mentoring and sources of advice,
·Dealing with the inevitable challenges along the road,
·Life-balance: fulfilment, purpose, happiness, money, family, location etc.

Our first panel in Birmingham last year was a success but we feel that London will inevitably draw more potential participants as it is very accessible for most. We are planning the early start at 5 30pm to allow everyone to get home or to their place to stay on the same evening. (But please don't worry if you're running late, the atmosphere is very informal!).

The venue is a great room overlooking Vincent Square in London SW1P 2PD at the imposing Westminster Kingsway College, which among many things specialises in the hospitality trade and has trained many well-known celebrity chefs (including Jamie Oliver!).The refreshments will be free of charge.

We really look forward to seeing you in London on 17 October 2019; please make the effort to come for an instructive and enjoyable session. I am sure you won’t be disappointed.

Best wishes
